Rachel says: This is Aimi (left, BC Roll) and Camellia (right, Green Tea). Aimi and her cat, Wasabi, currently live in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Aimi attends Emily Carr. Camellia, who goes to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, is up for a visit. They spend their time together collaborating on ideas for movie scripts and graphic novels, in the hopes that one day they will be rich and famous. Aimi loves to go for long walks through Stanley Park, and to Instagram pictures of her food. If anything is particularly delicious, she will also text pictures to all her friends, with all-caps captions like “BE JEALOUS”. She loves thrift-store shopping and watching old sitcoms. Camellia’s favourite thing in the world is poutine; she mourns the dearth of poutine in California nearly daily on her Twitter. She has a long standing love of Archie comics, and collects them to do this day. She hates socks.

I just found this series of books about the wives of Henry VIII, and I have to say I ADORE the covers.

Henry gets progressively older in each one, which is fantastic since most show him as old fat Henry all the time.

The wives all look quite decently accurate too, and are based on portraits done of them. I like that they each have their successors lurking in the background of their covers, like a reminder that they’re not going to be Queen for very long.

I wish more books would do illustrations like this nowadays, instead of using portraits or stock photos.

Initially, I didn’t want to do a super tall skinny coffee girl, but the writeup Rachel did for Melody’s personality (a love of baked potatoes, and a hate for everything and everyone else) wound up being my favourite.

She started off being a doodle to test a new calligraphic pen (oh that blotched foot :/), and then I realised she would fit a Skinny Vanilla Latte girl.

A quick editorial cartoon about the intersection of self-pity, entitlement, rape, territoriality, misogyny and fear of women. You see it all over the place online in the form of Men’s Rights Activists (of whom there are a few reasonable non-misogynists), Men Going Their Own Way, Pick Up Artists, and dudes touting the “Red Pill”, because The Matrix is a good movie. Look any of these up if you have the stomach for it. These are extreme examples, but watered-down forms of these ideas are everywhere.

In lurking their blogs and youtube channels for a while, I’ve noticed that beyond the standard patriarchal chauvinism there is this deep fear of women - what they will do to me, how they will reject me, how they will use me, how they are changing society in a way that does not favor me, how they are making men into something I don’t like, how they are making themselves into something I don’t like, that they won’t give me what I want, and that they won’t give me what I think is rightfully mine. This goes beyond fear of feminism- this is fear of women at its purest. And that, to quote a puppet, leads to anger and hate. It’s sad.

I am a feminist. I think there’s enough ice cream to go around, but it does mean those of us with 3 scoops might have to give one or two up. Also, The Matrix is a fun movie but probably not anything you should be basing a philosophy on.
